Ivy Ledbetter Lee (1877-1934) is considered by some to be one of the modern founder of modern public relations, along with Edward Bernays. Lee was born near Cedartown, Georgia on July 16, 1877. The son of a Methodist minister, Lee was a Princeton graduate and worked as a newspaper reporter and stringer at the World newspaper in New York City after which he worked on political campaigns. He and a partner established the nation's third public relations firm, Parker and Lee. The new agency boasted of "Accuracy, Authenticity, and Interest." Lee developed "press releases" during a 1906 coal strike. He went on to develop a "Declaration of Principles," for the developing profession.

P.R. Quote of the Moment:

"Modern business must have its finger continuously on the public pulse. It must understand the changes in the public mind and be prepared to interpret itself fairly and eloquently to changing opinion.” - Edward L. Bernays, PR Pioneer
